Hope Is A Decision

My visual depiction of the influence a Landscape Architect can have, especially within the current pandemic.

I feel grateful to live close to multiple spacious green parks.

Inspired by a Metropolis article discussing what is next for Landscape Architecture following the pandemic. https://www.metropolismag.com/architecture/landscape/covid-19-landscape-architecture/

What has the pandemic taught us? Aside from the fragility of life and how much we take for granted, what matters to us most?

I think we can all agree that it is being in the regular company of others. Community. We thrive in our tribes. It is how we have evolved to live the lives we would choose, under normal circumstances. During this unprecedented experience, of us living with such stringent restrictions on our freedom, arguably it is the contact of others we crave the most.

Using these observations, moving forward as designers, the forefront of our considerations must surely now be focused on how best to enhance, utilise and develop our shared, communal spaces.

Let us open a dialogue directly with real people living real lives and town planners and decision makers alike. Let us use our shared experience of this global pandemic to get to the root of what we as society, need most to bring us together and thrive. Let us think outside the box to over come regional and specific barriers like inclement weather conditions or limited space. People like being with people whether friends, family, neighbours or total strangers, who have the potential to become one of the aforementioned.

We are better together. Community is clearly important to us all, let us rethink our prescriptive formulas and bring about constructive, peaceful and passionate change.

I am hopeful for a bright future side by side.
